Mechanism — pathway
The Salvage Pathway
NAMPT recycles nicotinamide back into NAD+.
The dominant route of NAD+ regeneration in mammals. NAMPT converts nicotinamide (Nam) to nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), which NMNAT1-3 then adenylates into NAD+. NAMPT expression declines with age and is rate-limiting for intracellular NAD+ levels.
