CD38

The NAD+ hydrolase that explains age-related decline.

A cell-surface glycohydrolase that cleaves NAD+ into nicotinamide and ADP-ribose. CD38 expression rises with age and inflammation, and is now understood to be the largest contributor to the age-related decline in tissue NAD+ levels. Selective CD38 inhibitors are an active drug development target.
